Lakota Serenade

For her . . . He played a serenade

His flute had toned away her tears

She dreamed the sweetest dreams of love

Her flower grew

To him . . She was a lullaby

That took away his warrior cry

And peace fell from the stars above

His eagle flew

Their wedding song . . . Like nature's reed

Had sung throughout the forest green

Like wind beneath a hopeful dove

And all the world had come to feel

Their gentle flowing brook was real

Like whispered thoughts of hand in glove

Sweet morning dew

May every patient maiden hold

Her Peace Chief praying dreams of bold

When all may come to push & shove

For something new

Let music's secret touch unfold

To warm us through our winters' cold

And breathe into this field of love
